Friends groups help to organize special events like Mountain Days at Prince Gallitzin State Park. These events draw thousands of visitors to state parks each year. Friends of Prince Gallitzin State Park organized all the activities that took place in the park including a boat regatta. This was the first place winner!
The Friends of Laurel Hill State Park raised $35,000 to install a CCC memorial at the park to compliment their existing CCC Museum. The group received an initial $5000 donation to kick off the campaign, then proceeded to raise the rest of the funds over a three-year period through private donations, bake sales, raffles, duck races!
The Friends of Greenwood Furnace and the Robert E. Miller Jr. family donated their time, skills, and materials to the reconstruction of a pavilion that was slated for demolition at a nearby retirement complex. Over 700 hours and $10,000 were contributed by the Miller family to this project. The finished 40’ x 40’ pavilion was reconstructed to match the existing Civilian Conservation Corps style of architecture that exists in the park. The dedication was held on the date of the 60th anniversary of the Miller family annual reunion.

Friends groups often raise funds for park improvements like the installation of new playground equipment. The Friends of Laurel Hill State Park received a check from Walmart to help pay for the equipment.

The Friends of Ridley Creek State Park volunteers, along with other area services groups, volunteer masons and a landscape architect from Longwood Gardens, donated hundreds of hours to restore the formal gardens and fountain pond adjacent to the Hunting Hill Mansion.
