State Park and Forest Collector Tags
PPFF's tag program is modeled after successful programs underway at the Chesapeake and Ohio Canal (between Washington D.C. and Cumberland, Maryland) and the Cuyahoga National Recreation Area in Ohio.
Working with local artists and DCNR, PPFF developed the state park and forest tag program in 2006 so that citizens could demonstrate their support for our natural systems. An ongoing series, collectors can look for new limited edition tags each year.
PPFF works with state park and forests managers to identify local artists that are willing to donate an original artwork representing a park or forest natural scene. Other images are also considered, including historical photographs. The artwork is then reproduced into the 1.5" by 1.25" image on the front of the tag. Each tag is sponsored by a regional business.
An original watercolor of Pine Grove Furnace by Harrisburg area David Lenker and a colored-pencil sketch of a bobcat by McKean County artist Nelson Haas, are the images on the first two tags that were released in 2006.
In 2007, four new tags were released - one for each of the four park and forest regions and a second PAWilds tag. The regional images used include an original painting of the boulder field at Hickory Run State Park by Nancy Mendes; a photograph of the view of the Linn Run Valley from Wolf Rocks in the Forbes State Forest; and a historical photo of the CCC boys from 1936 at Parker Dam State Park. Dave Pirazzi donated the original painting of the American Bald Eagle for the 2007 PAWilds tag. In 2008, one tag, featuring a scene at Black Moshannon State Park, was released. This tag features the artwork of Sarah Pollock, a former color stylist for Walt Disney Feature Animation, who now lives and works as a professional artist in central Pennsylvania. Two tags are scheduled to be released in the spring of 2009, one for Oil Creek State Park, featuring the artwork of Jack Paluh, and one for Keystone State Park featuring the artwork of Jennifer Boget.
