Earth Day, Volunteer Opportunities
Celebrate Earth Day working to build a new sustainable trail system with Friends of Michaux, district staff, and members of the community. The Hearth Tender Trail is a stacked loop beginner to moderate hiking/biking trail system adjacent to Pine Grove Furnace State Park. The trail will connect into the existing Pole Steeple trail. When completed, the trail will include three different loops (3/4 mile, 1.4 mile, and a 4.1 mile loop).
On April 22nd, we will work on starting the construction of the 1.4 mile loop of the trail by digging, clearing, and tamping ground to create a quality sustainable trail tread.
After the workday, join us at Laurel Lake pavilion at Pine Grove State Park for a cookout provided by the Friends of Michaux State Forest.
What to Bring:
- Hand tools will be provided but if you have a favorite tool you are welcome to bring it.
- We’ll be using hoes, pick mattocks, cutter mattocks, rakes, wheelbarrows, and shovels.

- Bring eye protection and gloves.
- Bring snacks and plenty of water.
Rain or shine, may be canceled in the event of severe weather.
