Healthy Lands Week, National Public Lands Day, Volunteer Opportunities
Trail Mama’s annual graffiti removal project at Wolf Rocks in the Gallitzin is taking shape for National Public Lands Day. Graffiti Buster Jen says, “Plan to meet at 9am on Verla Drive, off Route 56 between Windber and Ogletown. You’ll see the pull off and our cars. It’s a 3/4 mile hike to our destination. This is as close to the rocks as we can park. We carry our supplies from here– paint brushes, scrub brushes, and buckets of Elephant Snot. This is environmentally safe paint solvent. Once there, we will apply Snot to the graffiti, scrub, and then power wash the paint away. Water is brought in by Gallitzin SF staff.
Any help is appreciated, even if you only help carry supplies! Stay as long as you are able. This event typically lasts until 4pm. Wear comfortable shoes and clothing that can be ruined. We hope to see you there!”
