National Trails Day Rededication

On June 2, 2018 PPFF, DCNR, REI, the Friends of Laurel Hill, the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, runners of the Laurel Highlands Ultra, and other friends and supporters of the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail came together for a National Trails Day celebration of the restored Adirondack shelters and rededication of the trail.

Remarks from some of the speakers who helped us celebrate include:

Clare Boast, Ridge Runners
Ted Massa, Laurel Highlands Ultra
Ann Nemanic, Laurel Highlands Visitors Bureau
Tom Saunders, President of the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy

Volunteers JoAnn Mock and Fred Fish posted some shots from the day on the LHHT Public Group Facebook page including this shot of the new prototype firewood storage shed to be constructed at each shelter area. Mike Mumau, Park Manager, called it the “Mellon Arena of firewood sheds” complete with retractable roof to allow a load of wood to be dumped directly into the covered garage. Firewood for everyone!
