The Re-Dedication Celebration on 6.2.18
Join with PPFF, DCNR, REI, the Friends of Laurel Hill, the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, runners of the Laurel Highlands Ultra, and other friends and supporters of the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail in a celebration of the restored Adirondack shelters.
We’ll begin the day with volunteer projects, either along the trail with the Ridge Runners volunteer group or at the Route 653 shelter area to perform the first of the improvements to the tenting area your support has made possible at every shelter area!
- Volunteers should meet at the park maintenance building on Route 653 west of New Centerville at 8:30 AM. (See Google Maps for precise location: https://www.google.com/maps/dir//39.9571868,-email@example.com,-79.3595037,15.38z/data=!4m2!4m1!3e0?hl=en) Depending on the number of people and the preferences stated on the form below, teams will form there and head out for work.
- Everyone returns to the Route 653 Shelter Area for lunch prepared by the Grumbling Gypsy sponsored by PPFF at approximately 12:00 PM, with plenty of time to eat and relax before the rededication at 1:30 PM.
- Following the festivities, all are invited to participate in a four-mile round trip guided hike to one of the beautiful overlooks for which the LHHT is famous.
- Finally, the Shelter Area has been reserved for the night so interested volunteers and participants may stay and enjoy the fruits of all this labor.
- What you should bring:
Sturdy work shoes and gloves.
Plenty of water.
Your sleeping gear.
Food for supper and breakfast. If there is interest among registered overnight participants, we can help organize group meals.
