Many governmental agencies tasked with maintaining Pennsylvania’s approximately 14,100 miles of trails are unable to hire enough paid staff to keep up with their ever-increasing workload. The trail volunteer community, of which you are part, is an essential cog in keeping up with this work. Volunteering and advocating for more funding of trails and trail maintenance is essential for those who love trails and hiking, biking, and horseback riding on this large trail system in the Commonwealth. There are numerous clubs, friend groups, and trail specific organizations that provide thousands of hours of volunteer work towards our shared goal of keeping trails open and accessible.
