walk with ease arthritis foundation

Does arthritis pain keep you from enjoying regular exercise? Join the Friends, volunteers trained as Arthritis Foundation Walk with Ease leaders, in a six-week, three-times-a-week, walking program.

While walking is the central activity, Walk With Ease is a multi-component program that also includes health education, stretching and strengthening exercises, and motivational strategies. The program includes a guidebook and a walking schedule to get you safely moving toward better health.

Studies by the Thurston Arthritis Research Center and the Institute on Aging of the University of North Carolina show that Walk With Ease is proven to:

  • Reduce the pain and discomfort of arthritis
  • Increase balance, strength and walking pace
  • Build confidence in your ability to be physically active
  • Improve overall health

The program will help motivate you to get in great shape and allow you to walk safely and comfortably.  Your Friends leader will begin each session at 10:00 AM with a pre-walk discussion covering a specified topic related to exercise and arthritis, followed by a 10- to 40-minute walk that includes a warm-up and a cool-down.

Program dates:

  • September 9, 11, 13
  • September 16, 18, 20
  • September 23, 25, 27
  • September 30, October 2, 4
  • October 7, 9, 11
  • October 14, 16, 18

Participants meet each week at the Environmental Interpretive Center at the park. The cost for the entire six week program is $20 and you should plan to attend all 18 sessions to derive the most benefit. The cost is $20 for the entire program with a maximum of 12 participants. A minimum of four will be needed to run the class; if we don’t receive sufficient registrations, the class will be cancelled and refunds issued. Registration will close September 4th.
