Greenwood Furnace State Park Complex wins 2016 Pennsylvania Parks and Forests Award
(Camp Hill, PA) – The Pennsylvania Parks and Forests Foundation (PPFF) today recognized the outstanding stewardship of Pennsylvania’s state park and state forest systems by Greenwood Furnace State Park Complex, awarding them the 2016 President’s Award. This year’s award is sponsored by SAP.
Greenwood Furnace, Whipple Dam, and Penn Roosevelt state parks make up the park complex. These parks were built and improved by the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in the 1930’s, and capture the feel of a time past, with their historic structures, tall timber, and rustic feel.
Recent work done at the complex includes:
• restoration and improvement of several CCC era pavilions and other buildings
• building of tent platforms for camping
• improved and established new trails
• building of a warming hut
