Thanks to our friends at REI Pittsburgh (and all the wonderful people who dropped a vote token in our jar at the two REI stores), the project to restore the chimneys and fireboxes of 20 remaining Adirondack style shelters on the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail (one of Pennsylvania’s very best) is on track.

These before and after shots of a chimney at Route 653 Shelter Area tell the story of how wonderful (and necessary) this work is.

REI provided $10,000 of seed money – we need $14,000 more! Check out our online donation campaign at http://bit.ly/lhhtshelterscampaign for your opportunity to be a true trail hero!
