AmeriCorps Healthy Lands Week Marketing

POSITION: National Service Position through AmeriCorps—Marketing at Pennsylvania Parks and Forests Foundation www.PaParksAndForests.org

Marketing Intern: If you love to build relationships, share your enthusiasm for an important cause, and impact critical programs, the position of AmeriCorps Member focusing on marketing and engaging volunteers in Healthy Lands Week at the Pennsylvania Parks and Forests Foundation (PPFF) may be right for you. The primary focus of this position will be to engage the public in Healthy Lands Week through education, outreach, and volunteerism, with the ultimate goal of building a sustainable system of cultural and natural assets.

POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Build awareness of the Healthy Lands Week (HLW) program (HealthyLandsWeek.org)
  • Communicate with diverse organizations about the program.
  • Organize volunteer opportunities and educational programs before and during Healthy Lands Week.
  • Assist with organizing HLW committee meetings.
  • Develop and implement public engagement programs and post to social media.

POSITION ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Ability to think creatively, generate new ideas, and develop and execute strategies.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and balance multiple projects within budget. Willingness to work independently and in small teams, across organization and inter-organizationally.
  • Strong written & verbal skills. Strong organizational, administrative, time management and interpersonal skills. People skills.
  • Commitment to the mission of the PPFF and passion for the outdoors.
  • Publisher, PowerPoint, Excel, social media platforms, Canva. Video experience a plus.
  • Ability to work occasional Saturdays and evenings-travel required.
  • Ability to withstand long periods of sitting, lifting up to 25 lbs.
  • BA or BS in public relations, communications, marketing, recreation, or equivalent experience.

Financial: Part-time, 19  hours per week. Bi-weekly stipend of $400.

This award may be used to repay qualified student loans and to pay current educational expenses at eligible institutions of higher education and training programs. and Implementation

Trail Training and Workday Coordinator: If you love to build relationships, share your enthusiasm for the outdoors, and train and lead volunteers, the national service position in trail maintenance and training at the Pennsylvania Parks and Forests Foundation (PPFF) may be right for you. Be an integral part of a dynamic team and be responsible for training volunteers in trail maintenance, leading volunteers in trail workdays, building the Stewards of Penns Woods trail volunteer program, and educating the public on Leave No Trace principles.

The right candidate will have flexibility to travel, will have experience working with volunteers, and have some knowledge of trail maintenance techniques.

POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Develop and implement trail maintenance training for volunteers at a variety of skill levels.
  • Assist PPFF in developing a trail assessment app for volunteers to monitor and report trail maintenance needs.
  • Work with state parks and forests to organize short- and long-term trail maintenance volunteer days/weekends/weeks.
  • Write a monthly trail blog for the PPFF website and one trail article for the Penn’s Stewards newsletter.
  • Understand our work and coordinate with the Public Engagement Coordinator to use social media platforms to tell the story of trail work and trail etiquette.
  • Plan and coordinate special volunteer days and corporate engagement days for trail work/adoption.
  • Train volunteers and do programs on Leave No Trace Etiquette.

  • Ability to work with volunteers.
  • Ability to meet deadlines and balance multiple projects within budget. Willingness to work independently and in small teams, across organization and inter-organizationally.

  • Commitment to the mission of the PPFF and passion for the outdoors.
  • Trail maintenance background and training preferred. Leave No Trace trained a plus but will train.
  • Ability to work some Saturdays and evenings as necessary-travel required.
  • Ability to work in the field using trail building tools and lifting up to 40 lbs.
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in park and recreation, conservation, or similar experience.

Financial: This is a 19 hour per week AmeriCorps Service Position, with a bi-weekly stipend of $400.

Volunteer and Stewardship Coordinator

Missions: PPFF’s mission is to inspire stewardship of Pennsylvania’s state parks and forests. SRTA promotes sustainable use of the river and the continued stewardship of the river and surrounding watersheds in partnership with private individuals, environmental and recreational organizations, and government agencies.

SRTA Volunteer and Stewardship Coordinator: If you love to build relationships, share your enthusiasm for the outdoors, and train and lead volunteers, the national service position working with the Susquehanna River Trail Association and the Pennsylvania Parks and Forests Foundation (PPFF) may be right for you. Be an integral part of a dynamic team and be responsible for recruiting and training volunteers, leading volunteers in workdays, making improvements to the trail, performing research, and educating the public.

The right candidate will have flexibility to travel and will have experience working with volunteers.

  • Recruit and train new volunteer trail stewards for the River Trail.
  • Assess trail needs and develop a work plan for signage and work days.
  • Capture images of the river trail and volunteers in action for social media.
  • Write a monthly trail blog and provide content for the SRTA newsletter.
  • Coordinate and/or participate in public engagement events to build awareness about the trail and trail etiquette.
  • Plan and coordinate special volunteer days and corporate engagement days.
  • Train volunteers and do programs on Leave No Trace Etiquette.

  • Ability to work some Saturdays and evenings as necessary. Travel within the footprint of the trail necessary.
  • Skills and comfort on the water.
  • Associate or bachelor’s degree in park and recreation, conservation, or similar experience.

Financial: This is a 19 hour per week AmeriCorps Service Position, with a bi-weekly stipend of $400.
